Portrait Development – Simon and Emma as Models

From the range of different subjects to photograph on the day, I most favoured shooting my two friends Emma and Simon. Maybe because it was a topic I don’t develop as often when on Saltburn beach.

They are a couple, so I experimented with ideas how to shoot them together on the pier, and around that area. I mixed classic portrait elements such as looking off into the distance with original ideas, for example, far-away thoughtful, natural expressions.

I think asking them for cheesy grins wouldn’t have worked, mainly because of how cold it was but also because I think softer ways of shooting them worked best.
