Beautiful Baby Leah

Leah is my friend Kristin’s daughter. She’s just at that stage when she’s about to crawl. I had lots of fun seeing Kristin and playing with Leah, she’s grown so big since I last saw her!

I took my camera along with me and took some lovely pictures. Here are the best ones....

York Minster Music festival – Trip with the youth group kids

Last Saturday I went to York Minster for a music festival. It was aimed at kids who go to youth groups in the local area. I volunteer at New Marske youth group and went along.

There was lots of flashing lights, live bands and a talent competition. The kids seemed to have a blast and so did I. The last band was probably the best, they were called Gold Digger and they have their own Facebook page so I added them and listened to their songs online.

I think it’s a great event and was really impressed, it was the first time that I had been, but they hold the event each year. I took the opportunity to take some photography in the minster. Some of the pictures are mainly candid shots and others are artier!

Art Inspired Cards

For a while, I’ve been eager to put my new art work on cards. I think by using my own art work, I can make my cards much more original. I’m hoping to sell these cards in galleries or somewhere nice like that. I feel happier selling them when all the content is my own. In the past I’ve recycled old cards which are pretty cool but that way there not as unique. I think I would like to continue making my art work cards, expect more soon!

New Craft Technique – Spirelli

I’ve probably said before, that I go to a couple of craft classes. Well Creative Crafts night class I go to on a Tuesday night. This week we were shown how to make Spirelli cards; this basically means a circular flower like template that you weave coloured thread through grooves around the edge. The patterns created look quite complex and the effect achieved it very beautiful.

When I was shown the designs before we were going to make it, I thought the technique must be very tricky, but if your get the knack right, it’s pretty easy to do! I enjoyed doing it, and it’s cool to experiment with colour combinations!

These are the designs I made, bearing in mind, it was the first time I had done this technique, I was quite pleased with the results!

Girl Power! – Pink Inspired Artwork

I love making collage inspired art, for this, I used magazine cuttings and my digital and hand drawn art mixed together.

I’ve always liked pink and feminine art but at university, there seemed to be a style that students must conform to which was more masculine and dark. Don’t get me wrong I love dark art but now I’ve graduated I decided I would further develop my own individual style.

To achieve this kind of effect I’ve created, I browsed fashion magazines for cool images/ideas.  I cut them out, scanned them in and edited them. I added my other art work and brought the two together using overlay blending mode.

I tried being as experimental as possible with these images. I love trying new things and I think I came up with a few good ideas!

18th Birthday cards and more!

My brother turns 18 tomorrow and I’ve been working on some special cards for him! I particularly like how the ‘TOM’ dark green card has turned out. I have been working hard on it for my mum and dad to buy off me to give to him.

The balloon card I’m not as keen on although still looks quite unusual. I don’t know who I’m going to give the pink star birthday card yet, but it’s quite funky and feminine. For this card, I used a Gok Wan bath set box which I recycled. I took a while deciding what to put in the middle, I had no appropriate gold peel offs so I used a star paper punch to finish it off!

New Abstract Collage Art Work

I wanted to get back into making fine art based work. For these images,  I cut bits from magazines and stuck them on paper. I then scanned them, edited them on Photoshop and used blending modes to mix different combinations of layers together.  I also added some digital drawing as well.

The result is quite striking, they are colourful and fun. I enjoyed doing these images and hope you like them too!
