York March | Bicycles
I feel bicycle photos can often convey a vintage kind of look. With these particular bikes we spotted in the centre of York most certainly had that kind of appeal. The style of bike was quite dated and set an unusual tone to many of the photos I took.
The colours really appealed to me and one bike in particular was a pink/white gradient. I noticed the ombre hair trend is quite popular at the moment and it reminded me of this.
York is quite well known for bikes and is one of the reasons why like to visit. They make interesting concepts for photos.

York March | Buses
My fascination with buses never stops. I used to travel daily on the bus to university and got to experience the public transport experience.
In fact I spent over two hours every day on the bus which is rather a long time. Unlike many people I actually liked it, it was a time to switch off and listen to my ipod.
The thing I didn’t like about buses (well buses to Uni!) was carrying all my books and portfolio as this was rather stressful.
But generally I like not having to think too much, you just get on a bus and relax till you reach your destination.
It’s kind of cool to people watch too. I remember doing a mini photography project on buses and my experiences came through into the images I had taken.
These days I don’t get the bus as often mainly as I’ve got a driving licence. Heres a few pics of buses had taken while in York. My favourite of the bunch is the one of the stop button purely because of the short dept of field and the cool blurred effect creating an atmospheric feel.

York March | Animals
I’ve always been interested in animals. I mostly like dogs and horses but like lots of other kinds too. After a photography trip I always seem to have at least a few photos of either a dog or some other kind of animal I’ve seen.
I know birds are quite popular to photograph. I know a few wildlife photographers who have these amazing telephoto lens and zoom right in. On this occasion in York I had my standard portrait lens. At times this makes photographing animals a little more challenging.
Surprisingly I captured a couple of ducks, a little random I know. There were some really tame (and rather cheeky ducks!) in the centre of York. I think they were after pieces of bread.
I like the challenge of picking a certain lens when I’m out rather than swapping between multiple lens – I don’t like that! I always decide on a lens beforehand.
I kind of cheated in the themed blog post as many of the animal shots are not living, instead toys, sculptures or signs etc.
My favourite shot from the bunch was one of a lovely brown poodle. I got quite close in this one and luckily it was super friendly. When taking dog pics it’s always important to crouch down at the dog’s eye level. It did this is in this shot. The technique works well in any kind of animal shot really.

King Charles Spaniel and Terrier Dog Photos
I’m lucky to have many neighbours who own dogs. I always seem to be photography animals – it’s my passion. Ive photographed Alfie before – heres a previous link to some more photos.
Alfie, Crystal and Mikey are lovely dogs and very friendly. On this occasion I used a telephoto lens to really zoom into the dogs faces without them getting too excited. This seemed to work well as the shots appeared a little more natural.

January Snow
It didn't seem that long ago that it was snowing – now were midsummer and the weather is lush. How time flys. As you can already tell this is a late post. I thought some of the pics I had taken were worth showing though. I’m thinking maybe images for 2013 Christmas cards.
I posted one of these pics on Flickr when I had first taken it and got quite a lot of positive feedback. It’s kind of an atypical picture of snow because of the blossom tree in bloom. Hope you like my little photo share!
