Saltburn Car Rally | Portraits

I included a mixture of portraits in the blog post. Some are candid kind of shots that I asked people to pose for and others are more street photography based.

I like the stories behind street photography photos. There was an old woman id spotted a number of times in Saltburn, and remember taking a picture of her at another event.

Also there were two women wearing neon necklaces, they spotted me taking a pictures and seemed interested in what I was doing. They posed for the camera too!

Saltburn Car Rally | Reflections

As mentioned in the previous post, there was an interesting vintage burger van. I completed some abstract work, including the reflections in the metal.

These shots came out quite well as a series, particularly the ones of the burger van. The event was so busy; I found it hard to get the pictures I wanted. I regret not getting a zoomed out shot of the burger van, as this would have looked lovely. Unluckily with the crowds being so big, this was hard to accomplish.

Despite this, some of my best work from the day included the close up shots of details. I always love working with reflections and it’s a nice way to show people without obviously pointing a camera in their direction.

Saltburn Car Rally | Food

There were lots of refreshments stalls, some with an interesting vintage style to them. This included a burger van with an aluminium reflective exterior.

Also a vintage cake stall really caught my eye. They had beautiful china, pretty cakes and decorations in a kitsch vintage style. There seemed to be a few opportunities for vintage style shots and enjoyed photographing this style.

Saltburn Car Rally | In Cars

I knew there were going to be loads of photos taken on the cars by lots of different photographers so I wanted to come up with a few ideas which hopefully would be more original.

This series of photos from the day, have shown a creative take on car event photography. I tend to zoom in a lot of little details, and on this occasion I choose to capture car accessories and work with the interiors of the cars.

Saltburn Car Rally | Cars

Saltburn Italian Job Car Show is the full name of the event which ran the first day of July. It was an extremely busy event, the busiest I had ever seen Saltburn. The year before, Saltburn ran a similar car event which was also busy. But this year it was manic, you literally couldn’t move.

Luckily there were a range of activities to keep everyone entertained. Events including a duck race, a car stunt show and an exhibition of cars. Overall it was a very successful event. I had taken my camera, and managed to get some pics. This blog post is the first of a series from the day.

Rain Clouds

In the United Kingdom, we have had a very wet and rainy couple of months; in some cases extremes such as hail, thunder and lighting. Many people I know have been capturing the weather with a camera.

I have been lucky enough not to get caught outside too much in the bad weather. But on a particular bad day, I took some pics of the clouds outside where I live. Heres a few of the best shots.

The Roses Project | Part 1

I chose to develop a project around roses because they can be captured in photography in so many ways. The project started when our rose bush was in bloom and it went from there really.

My passion for taking pictures of flowers has grown since I first got my bridge camera, and after getting a SLR a lot more creative possibilities developed in this theme for me.

I increased the tones with a number of Photoshop functions, mainly colour balance to create pink and lilac tones. I’ve included other photographs from that session, with similar flower/nature themes and colour palette.
